The Batch File Rename application does precisely what its name points out: it renames files in batch. Just load some files into the application, select one of the various renaming schemes, and hit the Take Action button. If you’re not happy with the result, just hit the Undo button and all changes will be rolled back.

You can install Batch File Rename on anything from Windows 2000 onward. To do so, you need only download the 1.2MB executable and run in. A very simple setup wizard will help you get Batch File Rename up and running. You will be done with the whole installation process in little time and without putting much effort into it.

The list to the left on Batch File Rename’s interface presents the files you’ve selected for renaming. On the pane to the left you will find all the various schemes you can use to rename the aforementioned files. You can change the look of the interface by picking one of several visual styles – you will find them in the Options menu in the upper left.

Using Batch File Rename is a simple 3-step process. Step 1: add the files you want to rename. You can add files, add files in a folder, and add folders in a folder. Step 2: choose a renaming scheme. You can insert text, insert file size, remove text, remove vowels, remove blanks, replace characters, and more. Step 3: Take Action. Hit the Take Action button and the application will rename your file based on the scheme you select. It must be mentioned here that the application can also move the files to a folder, copy the files to a folder, show a preview of the renamed files, and undo the last action.

You have a wealth of renaming schemes at your disposal and you can easily rename multiple files at once with Batch File Rename.

Pros

Installing the application on a Windows PC takes little time and effort. The interface is nicely laid out and easy to use. There are numerous schemes to choose from; you can save and organize schemes. Preview files before renaming them, undo the last renaming action.

Cons

Free to use for 14 days; the trial will not rename more than 20 files at a time.
